Received yet another adorable request for a first birthday cake:  a 3D Baby Teddy Bear wearing a diaper and an Elmo Bib, building block letters spelling birthday boy's name placed in front of the cake. They had scheduled a taste testing session back in March and said they liked the Strawberry cake & Chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream filling.  So they wanted their cake to be half strawberry, half chocolate.  Then 2 days before the birthday party, they requested the cake be made gluten free with minimal sugar.  I had to run to the store to buy the different ingredients to make a gluten free cake, but I'm happy that I was able to do this for them, since the mother was saying that her son was reacting to the cupcake that she had made earlier in the week. Cancer, the dreaded "C" word. It has become such an epidemic in our society that people are loath to even mention its name. Cancer is a disease that can affect many different parts of the body. Some of these diseases are more serious than others. It is not only the disease that is painful but also the many way of treating it. Radiation treatments may kill the cancer but are also dangerous for the body. Chemotherapy comes with many side affects such as hair loss and severe nausea. The many faces of this disease challenge an individual to show their fighting spirit and will to live.  What a blessing to have support from family and friends. Not long ago, I received a call from Benita, who had just learned her dear friend had been diagnosed with cancer. She reached out to me from another state and asking if I could deliver a cake to her friend who lived in a neighboring town, just to lift her spirits.
